Baselworld 2018: Mido Multifort GMT
Mido is extending the Multifort collection with a new chic sporty model intended for business travellers. Featuring a second time zone indicated by a red varnished arrow-shaped hand, the Multifort GMT reveals a sublime blue dial decorated with vertical Geneva stripes. Its round rose gold PVD-treated steel case forms a striking contrast with the deep blue dial. The chic, timeless Multifort GMT is the essential timepiece for all globetrotters wanting to travel with style and accurately.
Launched in 1934, two years after the Sydney Harbour Bridge was completed, the Multifort collection shares the structure’s remarkable qualities – a perfect blend of functionality and beauty. A truth that has stood the test of time, as Mido celebrated the 80th anniversary of Multifort production in 2014, making this emblematic collection one of the longest-produced series in the history of Swiss watchmaking.
The newest addition to this historical collection has its fair share of charms. It is sure to appeal to both business travellers and lovers of timeless, classic watches. The Multifort GMT features a second time zone indicated by a red varnished arrow-shaped hand. Meanwhile, a moving flange indicates the 24 global time zones. The second time zone (T2) is set using the screw-in crown at 2 o’clock. When activated using the screw-in crown at 4 o’clock, the arrow-shaped hand shows the time in the T2 time zone on a 24-hour scale. These two crowns give the exceptional timepiece its unique design and resolutely masculine character.
Measuring 42 mm in diameter, the round rose gold PVD-treated steel case contrasts superbly with the blue dial decorated with vertical Geneva stripes. These evoke the suspension and rivets of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, an early 1930s symbol of architectural modernism. Subtle touches of red on the second time zone hand and the upper section of the flange give the Multifort GMT a chic sporty look. The dial is protected by a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective treatment on both sides for perfect readability. The aperture at 3 o’clock displays the date.
Essential for keeping time while globetrotting, the Multifort GMT pairs elegance and accuracy. Lovers of fine watchmaking will also be delighted by the transparent case back, enabling the wearer to admire a finely decorated automatic movement and an oscillating weight adorned with Geneva stripes and the Mido logo. Water-resistant up to a pressure of 10 bar (100 m / 330 ft), the Multifort GMT has a brown genuine leather strap with a folding clasp in rose gold PVD-treated stainless steel.
The model is also available with a steel case and bracelet.
