Breitling Navitimer 8 Unitime
Having time under control around the globe could not be simpler. And all that in a sporty, elegant design assembled with exclusive watchmaking expertise.
Breitling’s Navitimer 8 Unitime awakens memories of a watch line which made its debut in 1951 and caused quite a stir even then. The new universal wristwatch for 2018 caters once more to globetrotters, cosmopolitans and, of course, business people who need global time-related information. And as you would expect, the experienced traditional manufacturer has considerably expanded the functional spectrum compared to its 67-year-old forerunner.
Highly intelligent mechanics developed in-house make mastering the 24 standard time zones a breeze. The hour hand can be moved forward or backward step by step via the crown when traveling across time zone borders. The window date at 6 o’clock follows automatically, while the minute hand remains in place. As a result, it takes just an instant to set the respective local time. If you position the city that represents the current time zone at 12 o’clock, the counterclockwise rotating 24-hour ring in combination with just as many cities indicates what time it is around the globe. This is made possible by an intelligent differential system and a sophisticated connection between this city ring and the innovative automatic movement. Of course, Breitling has patented both. The no less elaborate winding and pointer positioning systems are protected by two more patents.
The 36.6-millimeter wide and 7.8-millimeter deep B35, with its four-hertz balance frequency, occupies an exceptional position in what is now an extremely wide range of exclusive manufacture calibers. This extraordinarily functional movement is Breitling’s first in-house development without a chronograph. After fully winding the two barrels by the dual-acting ball- bearing rotor, more than 70 hours of power reserve are available.
Of course, each piece undergoes the 15-day accuracy and reliability test at COSC that Breitling demands of all mechanical timepieces before being installed into its striking steel case.
The rotatable glass rim with a total of sixty notches provides a range of valuable services while underway across the world. If you want to be constantly aware of the remaining flight time during long-distance flights or avoid a parking fine, all you need to do is turn the pointer in front of either the hour or minute hand. It’s the simplest possible way to have any remaining time in full view at all times. On the other hand, you can also move the pointer to the scheduled arrival time of the aircraft and immediately determine how accurately the onboard computer calculated it as soon as you land.
Any moisture or wetness encountered at home or while travelling do not harm the wristwatch, which is available with a black or gray dial. The water-resistant case with its 43-millimeter diameter, the front double anti-reflective sapphire glass, and the transparent sapphire case back can withstand pressure of up to ten bar.
