The Certina DS-1 Big Date 2019 celebrated its premiere on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the DS concept. Thanks to its very successful debut, the green special edition (please read more about here) now has company: the new members of the Certina DS-1 Big Date family are presented with dark blue and anthracite-colored dégradé dials. The new models are also fitted with a sapphire crystal case back, offering additional intriguing perspectives. The automatic movement features the innovative Nivachron balance spring, which is immune to magnetic fields and delivers the reliability characteristic of Certina.
Sophisticated details
Timelessly elegant and sophisticated at once – the Certina DS-1 Big Date easily unites alleged opposites. An understated color gradient lends character and depth to the domed, sunray-finish dials. Dark blue darkens at the edges into black, while silver-gray shades into anthracite. Facetted wedge indexes, long «Dauphine» hands and a big date at 6 o’clock ensure absolute clarity.
A sapphire crystal at the back of the 41 mm stainless steel case provide maximum transparency. The watches are available with a precious stainless-steel bracelet or calfskin leather strap – the latter is particularly easy to remove thanks to its quick release spring bars.
Modern mechanics with Nivachron balance spring
Beating in the heart of the Certina DS-1 Big Date is a Powermatic movement of the latest generation: along with a power reserve of up to 80 hours, it features a balance spring made of Nivachron.
This innovative material was developed with the participation of the Swatch Group in order to achieve increased resistance to magnetic fields and thus circumvent one of the greatest threats to mechanical precision. The balance spring is also exceptionally resistant to changes in temperature and features excellent, proven shock resistance.
