Patek Philippe Ref. 4947/1A-001 Annual Calendar Watch (Price, Pictures and Specifications)
Invented and patented by Patek Philippe in 1996, the ingenious Annual Calendar mechanism requires just one correction per year. It has been interpreted through various models for men and ladies, in the three colors of gold as well as in platinum.
Within a round Calatrava-type case, this complication had however never previously appeared in stainless steel as it now does. Featuring a polished bezel and a 38mm case diameter suited to all wrists, the new Reference 4947/1A-001 is also distinguished by its brand-new integrated bracelet comprising five rows of fully polished links – complete with a patented fold-over clasp secured by four independent catches.
The shimmering gleam of polished steel is elegantly offset by a midnight blue dial enhanced by a double vertical and horizontal satin finish, also described as a “shantung” motif. The dance of time is punctuated by applied white gold Arabic numerals, luminescent-coated white gold leaf-shaped hands and luminescent hour cabochons.
The Annual Calendar indications are easy to read, with two subdials respectively displaying the day between 9 and 10 o’clock and the month between 2 and 3 o’clock, as well as a date window at 6 o’clock.
They are complemented by an extremely accurate moon-phase display that deviates from the true lunar cycle by only one day in 122 years. All the calendar indications are conveniently adjustable by means of correction push-pieces housed in the case.
A sapphire crystal case back provides an admirable view of the design and meticulous finishing of caliber 324 S QA LU, notably the bridges with beveled and polished edges or the circular Geneva striping decoration.
The self-winding movement is driven by a 21K yellow gold central rotor engraved with the Calatrava cross. It comprises 328 components, including a Spiromax balance-spring in Silinvar.
