TAG Heuer and Max Verstappen, Formula 1 driver for the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing team and youngest Grand Prix winner in the history of Formula 1, presented their latest creation at an event hosted at the legendary Hotel Arena this Tuesday. The new special edition timepiece, limited to 1,300 pieces and designed by the racer himself, is now available around the world.
TAG Heuer aficionados, Max Verstappen fans, retailers, and VIPs including Dutch former Formula 1 driver Robert Doornbos and current Dutch racing drivers Jan Lammers and Guido van der Garde, celebrated the third timepiece realised as part of a collaboration between Max Verstappen and the avant garde Swiss watchmaker.
During the event, which was hosted by Robert Doornbos and TV personality Rob Kamphues, Aston Martin Red Bull Racing and its Official Timekeeper, TAG Heuer, arranged a pit-stop challenge – a short contest between Max Verstappen and internet star and TAG Heuer friend of the brand Supercar Blondie in which they had to change one tyre on an Aston Martin Red Bull Formula One car as quickly as possible. Guests then had the chance to beat the times the two stars set.
Max Verstappen: Formula 1 driver and watch designer
After the launch of two successful special editions in 2016 and 2017, TAG Heuer decided to continue the success story with Max Verstappen. The design for the third piece began earlier this year when TAG Heuer met him at Silverstone, where he spoke to the design team about his vision for the watch and his design preferences.
In July, Max Verstappen visited the brand’s museum and manufacture workshop in la Chaux-de-Fonds to launch the production of his own watch (read more about here), a timepiece that highlights his outstanding success and reputation in the world of motor racing.
Max Verstappensaid: “The watch is very sporty, with nice racing colours in black and red. I think it’s very cool – exactly like what I wanted it to be!”
Introducing the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Max Verstappen Special Edition 2018
The sporty chronograph is stylish and functional. The dial, with its subdials at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock, features several design elements that leave no mystery as to who designed the limited-edition timepiece. The striking red and black colour scheme that Max Verstappen chose because of its connection to the racing world can be found on the bezel and the dial.
His racing number, 33, is found on the subdial at 6 o’clock, and a nod to this home country can be found on the right side of the dial where the colours of the Dutch flag are presented in a vertical stripe. The stainless-steel case is presented on a stainless-steel bracelet with black ceramic links. The Aston Martin Red Bull Racing logo is engraved on the caseback of the 43 mm timepiece.
