The New IWC Portugieser Automatic 40 & 42 (Price, Pictures and Specifications)
IWC Schaffhausen presents the Portugieser Automatic 40. With this automatic model, the iconic Portugieser design featuring the small seconds at 6 o’clock, returns to the collection in a compact 40-millimetre diameter. At the same time, IWC is launching two new versions of the classic Portugieser Automatic with diameters of 42 mm, one of them featuring the maritime design cues of the Boutique Editions.
A neatly organized, open dial with small seconds at 6 o’clock: IWC’s Reference 325 in the late 1930s established a classic design idiom that has run as a common thread through the history of the Portugieser family ever since.
Identical design cues later appeared virtually unmodified in the Portugieser anniversary edition (Ref. 5441), the Portugieser Minute Repeater (Ref. 5240), the Portugieser F.A. Jones Limited Edition (Ref. 5442) and the Portugieser Hand-Wound Eight Days (Ref. 5102).
Now the timelessly modern design returns to the collection in a new automatic model with a compact case diameter of 40 mm. Ticking away inside the Portugieser Automatic 40 (Ref. 3583) is the IWC-manufactured 82200 calibre. The robust, high-quality automatic movement has a Pellaton winding system with components made of virtually wear-free ceramic, which builds up a power reserve of 60 hours. A sapphire glass back provides an unimpeded view of the decorated movement. Four versions are available in 18-carat 5N gold or stainless steel. A newly developed butter y folding clasp on the stainless-steel models makes them particularly comfortable to wear.

Two New Versions Of The Portugieser Automatic
The classic Portugieser Automatic (Ref. 5007) features a 42-millimetre case. The small seconds and the power reserve display are located directly opposite each other at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock. Thanks to this striking design, the watch long ago achieved the status of a modern classic. One new model is available featuring the design cues of the Boutique Editions, inspired by sailing and the maritime world and with an 18-carat 5N gold case and blue dial. A second model is available in stainless steel with a striking burgundy dial.

Both watches are powered by the IWC-manufactured 52010 calibre, which features the IWC specific Pellaton winding system using components of virtually wear-free zirconium oxide ceramic. Thanks to its slightly larger dimensions, the movement has room for two barrels that build up a power reserve of seven days. In this model too, the decorated movement is visible through a transparent sapphire glass back.
