Both watches conform to the next generation of Aquis watches introduced at the spring Baselworld watch fair earlier this year. Oris's designers deliberately set about refining the Aquis case so that it would be slenderer and more stylish. The same ambitions have been applied to the Aquis Date and Aquis Date Diamonds, both of which feature a thinner case, horns and bracelet, and subtler crown protectors. The updates combine to create a watch with a more streamlined, more elegant silhouette.

The changes aren't simply aesthetic. The 36.5mm case and bezel have been reengineered so that there is now a small gap between the two. This makes the bezel easier to grip and adjust when setting the watch to measure dives times. Despite the extra pressure this might appear to put on the case architecture during a dive, this evolution has left the watches' performance unaffected. Both models are still water-resistant to 30 bar (300 metres), and both still feature uni-directional rotating bezels that can only be accidentally adjusted to make the dive time measured shorter, thus protecting a diver during a timed dive.

Both new models are available with a variety of dial, strap and bracelet combinations. The Aquis Date has a scratch- and fade-resistant white or black ceramic insert, while the Aquis Date Diamonds has a tungsten bezel and a dial set with 11 diamond hour markers. The latter has a sparklier, more glamorous feel as a result.
